In the latest episode of “Mondays with McElwee,” Houston-based plastic surgeon Dr. Tyler McElwee addresses a commonly asked question about combining facial and body procedures. He discussed the key consideration in determining whether a facelift, necklift, or rhinoplasty can be performed simultaneously with a body procedure.

In his Instagram video posted on the 28th of November (Episode 7), Dr. McElwee emphasized the importance of avoiding blood thinners post-surgery for body procedures, as they can increase the risk of complications related to bleeding in facial surgeries.

“Combine facial and body procedures only if no blood thinners are needed for the body surgery, minimizing the risk of complications from bleeding during facial procedures. “

The primary concern is to minimize the risk of bleeding during facial procedures, and as long as a blood thinner is not required for the body procedure, combining the surgeries is feasible.

Learn why avoiding blood thinners is key and delve deeper into this important topic. Watch the full video below for expert advice and stay tuned for more valuable discussions in upcoming weeks!

“If I’m having some kind of face procedure—a facelift, necklift, rhinoplasty—can I combine it at the same time with a body procedure?”
The big delineating factor for me is whether we’re going to need a blood thinner after surgery with regards to the body procedure.
One of the significant risks we all talk about for facial procedures is bleeding. So, I don’t want to start behind the curve by adding a blood thinner and increasing the risk of complications from a facial standpoint after surgery.
Therefore, as long as we don’t need to be on a blood thinner, we can do them at the same time.
