Houston, TX — Our team, led by our top plastic surgeons Dr. Patrick Hsu and Dr. Kendall Roehl returned to this year’s Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® on Saturday, October 06th, 2018.

“I was so honored to be a part of the event to support awareness, teach prevention, and celebrate all our fighters and survivors!” says Dr. Hsu.

Over 15,000 Houstonians gathered at the Sam Houston Park, united as a community for a good cause. Our families, patients, and friends visited our booth, giving us the chance to catch up with them before the run started.

“Seeing the whole community out here for the race was overwhelmingly beautiful,” says Dr. Roehl. “For women who are currently struggling with the disease, seeing the support from their family, friends, and neighbors can go a very long way in their journey to full health and recovery.”

Last year’s Race for The Cure® was postponed to this past January due to the events of Hurricane Harvey, making 2018 one of the rare instances when the race was held twice in one year in the same city. Given that, the event was a tremendous success that brought out the best the city of Houston had to offer.

The Significance of Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is one of the most significant months for plastic surgeons as it represents Breast Cancer Awareness. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. This is why Susan G. Komen is such an important organization: it raises funds for educational programs and initiatives that enable women to seek breast cancer treatment. Since 1982, the organization has supported the community by raising nearly $1.5 billion.

“It was our third year at the Susan G. Komen race! It was amazing to see everyone. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who stopped by!” says Dr. Hsu.

The team at Memorial Plastic Surgery would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s Race for the Cure®. We are grateful to everyone who came out and helped us reach our fundraising goal to continue our support towards the community.
