FACIAL LIPOSUCTION IN HOUSTON & WEBSTER, TX

The accumulation of fat on the face can greatly detract from its appearance. This less vibrant look can take a toll on a person’s self-confidence. So, they look for a solution that can restore a refreshed appearance to the face and neck.

This can be achieved through facial liposuction which can be done using a variety of techniques. By eliminating accumulated fat caused by genetics, weight gain, or aging, this procedure contributes to an improved jawline and a slimmer overall appearance, but it can stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen to boost skin elasticity.

Our facial plastic surgeons, led by Dr. Tyler McElwee, offer this procedure to treat common problems such as full or chipmunk jowls, heavy cheeks, or a double chin, which is why it is sometimes referred to as chin liposuction.

As a leading facial liposuction provider in Houston, TX, Memorial Plastic Surgery offers this procedure under the supervision of our board-certified plastic surgeons. With their extensive knowledge in performing various facial plastic surgery procedures, our doctors use different minimally invasive techniques for facial liposuction that help achieve patients’ desired outcomes with less downtime and scarring.

Facial liposuction can also be performed to remove a small amount of fat and transfer it to the desired area, such as the cheeks if they lack definition, to create a more even and youthful appearance.

FACIAL LIPOSUCTION WITH MPS TOP DOCTORS

Prior to any procedure, patients meet with our surgeons for a consultation to learn about their goals. For face and neck liposuction, our doctors perform a complete facial assessment of the patient, which allows them to create an individualized treatment plan for the patient.

Liposuction of the face and neck is performed under general anesthesia in order to obtain superior results. The procedure begins with our surgeon making a small incision under the skin and another behind each earlobe.

A cannula will be inserted through these openings to melt the fat cells and suction them out. This technique is known as VASER liposuction, which uses ultrasound energy to melt the fat on the face. This softens the contours of the face and tightens the skin, making it easier to remove the fat with less pressure and bruising. This technique also significantly lessens visible scarring for our patients.

Once all the fat is removed and the face is sculpted to a more defined appearance, the incisions are carefully closed with dissolvable sutures. Neck liposuction takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the amount of fat being removed, if not coupled with another procedure.

IDEAL CANDIDATES FOR FACE & NECK LIPOSUCTION

Neck liposuction may be right for you if you have stubborn fat on your face and neck, and if you have not seen results despite diet and an active lifestyle. There are a few qualifying factors for the ideal candidate for liposuction of the face and neck, such as:

  • You have fat deposits in the neck area
  • You have firm, elastic skin, and good muscle tone

To be considered an appropriate candidate, patients should be close to their ideal body weight, as any significant fluctuation will affect the final outcome of the procedure. The patient should be willing to maintain this weight after surgery to enjoy the results for longer.

Recovery & Results

After surgery, our patients are fitted with a head and neck support bandage that must be worn for at least two weeks. However, for best results, the bandage may be worn for the first month, especially at night. Follow-up visits are scheduled so that our surgeon can assess recovery and ensure that there are no complications.

Our team will give instructions for post-operative care at home, especially since visible bruising and swelling can be expected in the first few days after surgery. Applying an ice pack near the surgical area for a few minutes every hour will help to relieve any discomfort. Sleeping elevated or in a recliner chair will also help speed up healing.

Patients can expect most swelling to be gone after liposuction of the face and neck in 3 – 4 weeks. After that, patients will be able to see their thinner, slimmer faces. The skin will continue to form around the jawline for up to three months. Full recovery can take up to six months, depending on the extent of the procedure.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What kind of results can be expected from facial liposuction?

By improving the contours of the face, they achieve a slimmer face with a more youthful appearance. Liposuction of the face and neck also helps to remove a double chin by refining the jawline and bringing balance to the face.

The effects of facial liposuction are long-lasting as long as the patient maintains their weight after surgery. Fat cells removed by the procedure do not return. However, a person may still gain weight in the untreated areas, resulting in an uneven appearance. Patients can maintain the success of their facial liposuction by eating healthy and exercising regularly.

We recommend that our patients sleep on their back for at least 1 – 2 weeks after surgery, either on a recliner or with two pillows elevating the head to decrease the swelling.

Our patients are fitted with a binder or support garment for the head after liposuction of the face and neck to maintain stability during recovery at home. This is worn typically for two weeks, even when sleeping, and only removed when showering. After a follow-up visit with our surgeon, they will observe how well the patient is recovering and may require them to wear the garment for another two weeks.

We encourage our patients to resume exercise gradually, starting with light exercises after two weeks. Light walking is encouraged to help blood flow. Heavy exercise such as lifting and other strenuous activities should be avoided for a month or two, or until given clearance by our team during follow-up visits.

After the procedure, our patients are fitted with a support garment that keeps pressure off the chin. This is made of strong, synthetic materials that wrap around the head to help the surgical area recover.
